how do i get to crossroads?
CrossRoads is located in Lowesville, Virginia which is in Amherst County. We are between Lynchburg and Charlottesville off of Route 29. Click here for our location in Google Maps. If you need further assistance with directions, call our office at 434.277.8465.
How far are you from ________?
Travel time from Lynchburg or Charlottesville is approximately one hour. We are about 1 ½ hours from Roanoke, and 2 ½ hours from Richmond.
How old do I have to be to come to camp?
To be eligible to attend our Classic Camp (overnight, residential, and without family or church leaders present), campers must be 8 years (by the time you arrive at camp) through age 17. Absolutely no exceptions to this Classic Camp policy will be granted. Our Church Group Camps, Family Camps, and Adventure Days offer more flexibility. Click here to learn more.
do you offer Scholarships?
Thanks to the generosity of givers to the Alma Hunt Missions Offering, we are able to scholarship campers whose families may not be able to afford to send them to camp otherwise. Click below to download a scholarship application, and let us know if you have questions.
How much money do I send with my camper?
Campers will be able to donate to the camp missions offering in support of a designated ministry. Campers also have an opportunity to visit the Camp Store daily. Snacks are $3.00 or less and campers are limited to 3 food/beverage items a day. Gifts range from about $3.00 to $25.00. $20.00-$30.00 is plenty to cover snacks for most campers. You can deposit funds to your camper’s account during check-in. The campers will be able to “debit” money from their account each day. Remaining camp store balances of $5 or more will be returned to each camper on closing day. Outstanding camp store balances of less than $5 will be donated to the summer missions offering. The Camp Store is also open directly after the Closing Program.
is there a dress code?
In keeping with a safe environment and CrossRoads values, we encourage all campers to wear well-fitted, appropriate clothes, shoes and swim wear.
Staff reserves the right to ask campers to change clothes or put on additional clothing if deemed necessary for safety and the goals of the summer camp program.
How can I contact my campers during camp?
While at CrossRoad Summer Camp, campers are unplugged. This is intentional as we want to give their eyes and thumbs a break from everyday life. They do not come to camp with phones, computers, iPods, etc. so they can have fun playing in the great outdoors as well as talking and building lasting relationships with both campers and counselors.
Summer campers will love receiving real letters and packages through the mail. Additionally, campers will appreciate receiving emails while at camp.
You may send mail to them by using the following address: CrossRoads, (Camper’s Name), 2247 Little Piney Rd., Lowesville, VA, 22967. You can also write to your campers by e-mailing them at campers@crossroadsccc.com. They don’t have access to reply to your e-mail, but we deliver e-mails received at each mealtime. Please put their first and last name in the subject line. Phone calls during camp are discouraged.
Where will my camper sleep?
Campers sleep in unit buildings that are divided into four separate rooms or “cabins”. There are two upstairs cabins and two downstairs cabins. Each cabin has twin bunk beds and we place up to 10 campers in a cabin. Bathroom facilities are located inside each cabin. Counselors sleep in a smaller room located within the cabin.
Is there a Nurse on the premises during Camp?
There is always a Registered Nurse who stays on the premises during Summer Camp. If your child has any medication, you will be required to hand it in to the nurse during check-in. Click for more information on Safety & Covid-19 Response
how’s the camp food?
Providing kid-friendly, healthy, delicious meals is a priority at CrossRoads. Many campers mention the food as one of their favorite parts of camp at the end of the week! Campers are encouraged to try everything, but options are always available in the unlikely event that they cannot find something they like to eat at a certain meal. If your camper has a particular allergy or special dietary need, please be sure to include this on your registration form. You may also choose to call (434.277.8465) and discuss a camper’s dietary needs with the Food Service Manager at least one week in advance. We do our best to honor dietary requests, but not all restricted diets can be accommodated. Some campers who require a very restricted diet may be asked to bring some of their own food.
What if my camper leaves something at camp?
Call CrossRoads (434.277.8465) as soon as you realize it is missing. If it has been found, we are happy to mail it to you at the cost of shipping. Lost and found items are only kept for two weeks.
What if my camper misses home?
We know that missing home can be a very natural feeling for many campers on their first (or even second or third) trip to camp. It is okay to miss home, but we don’t want these feelings to consume the camper’s entire camp experience.
Here are a few things you can do to ensure that your camper’s thoughts of home will not negatively affect her overall camp experience:
Talk positively about the week at camp in the weeks leading up to it.
Minimize the conversations about how much you will miss your camper.
Let your camper “practice” spending a night or two away from home if they have not already.
Allow your camper to talk about things that are making them anxious about camp, and provide them with strategies to deal with these anxieties.
Send stationary and stamps with your camper so that they can write letters home.
Send your camper mail during the week.
Pray for your camper!
Here are a few things we will do:
Keep your camper involved and active throughout the day.
Provide your camper with options at meal time to ensure they are eating enough.
Allow your camper to talk with a counselor or other adult about their feelings and give them strategies to try.
Encourage your camper to write a letter home about what is happening at camp.
Pray with your camper.
If your camper has feelings that persist and are holding them back from participating, our next step is usually for a staff member to call you. We like to gather ideas from parents about how to encourage their children…you know them best!
We need to cancel our registration. Will we get a refund?
There is a non-refundable $50.00 registration processing fee. All cancellations must be received in writing three weeks prior to your scheduled camp week for a partial refund. After this time, no refunds will be given except in the case of severe illness or death in the immediate family. Names of campers may be substituted, but notification of the change must be made before opening day.
